Organelles and functions:
Cell Membrane- Surrounds cell protecting the interior and keeping certain substances out.
Nucleus- Contains DNA controls cell growth and reproduction. ("the brain")
RER- Makes membranes and secretory proteins; in pancreatic, RER makes insulin.
SER- Carbohydrate and lipid synthesis, and detoxification.
Golgi Bodies- Modifies, sorts and packs proteins to be exported.
Lysosomes- Contains enzymes, breaks down lipids, proteins and carbohydrates. Kills dead or not needed cells.
Mitochondria- Cells power house, converts energy into usable form. (ATP) Involved in cellular respiration, division, growth and cell death.
Ribosome- Makes proteins. Can be on the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum or free floating.
Vesicle- Mainly involved with the transportation of material in/out and within the cell.
Non-organelle
Chromatin- Chromatin, DNA and proteins make up the contents of the nucleus.
Nucleolus- Transcribe rRNA to make ribosomes
Plant Cell ONLY
Chloroplast and Cell Wall
Animal Cell ONLY
Centroile

Prokaryotic cells are bacteria which are unicellular, microscopic organisms. Both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells contain DNA, a cytoplasm, ribosomes and defined by a cell membrane
Characteristics:
-Lack membrane bound organelles
-No nucleus
-Contain only ribosomes
-Flagellum (tail) used for locomotion
(Archea Bacteria)
